At the time of this artwork’s conception and production, I was working with the 16th and 17th century theme of the Vanitas in a separate body of work. Primarily depicted through strong still life paintings, the Vanitas presented the fragility of nature and the transience of life; ultimately showcasing the passing of time and the inevitability of death. The presented work displays the ephemeral thought of a single, natural existence, void of earthly possessions and distractions, implied by the empty background.
